Sound was working fine with Windows 7 and after the upgrade to Windows 10.
After one of the latest automatic Windows 10 upgrades sound stopped working altogether. Everything checks as fine and I do not get any errors. Sounds and videos appear to play, sound levels on Sound->Playback->Speakers monitor show the bars going up and down whilst playing sound, but there is absolutely no sound coming from the speakers at all even with all the volumes maxed.
I had a hard drive problem so recently updated to an SSD. Install went fine and everything is working. However, the conexant 20672 smartaudio hd software previously displayed an icon in the tray that allowed me to change the settings. It no longer is showing up. I did the install using the Windows 10 conexant driver from the X220T link. This package installs the software (Conexant Audio Software) to enable the following device. Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD Conexant Audio Software for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad - US. This package installs the software (Conexant Audio Software) to enable the following device. Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD.
I read all of the threads I could find with google on this matter (there are many!) and I learnt that also Dell and HP laptops with similar Conexant chipsets are affected.
I tried all the workarounds I read about including:
1) re-installing the drivers several times
2) using different releases of the drivers up to the latest I could find for my Lenovo X220 which is 8.32.23.5
3) disabling all enhancements
4) changing the default format to all the options I could get from 16bit 44100 Hz up to 24bit 192000 Hz
5) disabling exclusive mode
All the above without success. Still NO SOUND.

Please can Microsoft look into this issue and provide an update to fix this problem ASAP?
Conexant 20672 Smartaudio Hd Windows 10 Driver
Sound is essential to everyday's use and I would not want to have to re-install Windows 7.
Thank you!

Conexant 20671 Smartaudio Hd Driver
Hi, sorry if I've started this thread in the wrong place - I've never needed to request help with a computer problem before. I have a Lenovo G510 running windows 8.1 64 bit, bought about 6 weeks ago. Installed windows updates earlier today, including an optional one for the conexant audio device, and now there is no sound. There is an exclamation mark next to the device in device manager and an error code for the driver that states 'Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many many times, including downloading the driver from the Lenovo website and using the driver from the D drive, always with the same error: Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device. Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Conexant SmartAudio HD Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18) I've also tried doing a system restore to before the update but this also failed with the message 'access denied'. Update history states the audio device update was successful. The events tab in device manager shows a list stating 'device installed' over and over. The information for the most recent event is as follows: Driver Management concluded the process to install driver g13plmwa.inf_amd64_007bf12cd0f50a21g13plmwa.inf for Device Instance ID HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_5115&SUBSYS_17AAC041&REV_10014&2426718C&0&0001 with the following status: 0x0. I don't really know how to read all the info in the details tab but the capabilities property has a value of 00000000 which doesn't sound promising to me! Status property reads: 01802400 DN_HAS_PROBLEM DN_DISABLEABLE DN_NT_ENUMERATOR DN_NT_DRIVER Sorry for the very long post, really hope someone out there can help, have spent most of today trying to sort this. I was already incredibly frustrated with windows 8, now I'd quite happily murder anyone involved in the development of it with my bare hands.
